type='text'>Shelia and the feather pillow

It happen some time ago.
I had a lovely feather pillow on the couch.
I left Katie and Shelia unattended and did some puttering around the home.
Came back into the living room and the feathers were at least half a foot deep.
Was the bird ever squawking!
I went out and bought another pillow to replace it.
Then of course things started to get expensive.
Just a cheap foam pillow from the spring maid clearance store.
Came home a week later to Katie in hives all over her back.
Took her to the vet , had no idea what caused it.
Next night when I came home her back was free of hives(she was also on some meds.)
She sat beside me on the couch and happened to put her back against the pillow.
She broke out in hives again!
So pillow has gone.
Shelia has a large bump on her head.
Last year the bump was maybe pea size.
It is more like a quarter or loonie size so we will have to wait and see what the vet suggest.
Other wise she has not been up to to much mischief.
I forgot she jumped up into the air and took a snap at hubbies hand that was holding some yummy Lasagne, knocked it on the floor.
I usually eat with her behind the babygate as she is a terrible food hound.
Took old dog Sam for a walk yesterday.
Two little dogs had escaped from their yard.( I thought)
I went knocking on the door of the house I had seen them run out from under the fence.
A lady drove up and parked her car, then said ,,their were not her dogs,,!
They where the neighbor's but they creep under the back fence to play with her big dog.
They are small enough to get out of big dogs yard!
Anyways she took over the dogs as I told her,, they could have been easily run over,,.
You go out for a nice peaceful walk: you end up getting stressed!
Shelia and Bladder Stones

So Shelia continues to be an expensive dog.
We had allowed her out of her crate when we went to work.
Noticed when we touched her side she cried and sometimes peed.
Off to vets where they x-rayed and thought they saw something like bladder stones.
She was put on the bland kd diet for 2 weeks then x-rayed again.
They were not to sure if they where gone.
Hubbie suggested it could be the rough play, when we where out of the house, with the big Shepherd Sam.
I hauled the crate back up from the basement and you have never seen a happier dog she always running in to it.
Especailly with a treat to eat, no more promblems when we pet her so I guess she will stay in her security crate till Sam dies.
The crate is huge so she has tons of room in there.
Other news the bird may be diabetic, Katie and Sammy are in good health.
My new years resolutin is to take them for a good walk every day.
Shelia and Katie bodyslam

Shelia and Katie slammed into each other as one was running down to the river on a narrow path, and one was running up.
Katie is a brick house!
They collided then Sheila lay on her side crying in pain.
Wasn't able to right her self for a bit.
Then she got up and stiffly moved along.
Not her normal self now
She doesn't try to herd Katie at all and is staying out of the same room as her.
Probably got bruised some how.
We will have to keep an eye on her.
All she's been doing to night is laying down and resting.
How many lives can one dog have!
Later tonight when I took Sam for a walk, a Boxer ran out and attacked him.
Saw the dog laying on the front lawn not tied up and I was on the side walk.
I yelled to the guy my dogs don't like other dogs.
Meanwhile he ran out and took a few nips at his flak.
Smart enough not to go near the huge jaws!
I was lifting Sam up in the air a bit so he wouldn't get a bite in.
They where able to call him off and we continued on with the walk.
Sam is very dog aggressive as he has been attacked many times by dogs off leash running at him!
Good thing he such a big lug: they can't seem to hurt him!
Last week we saw a little Jack Russell puppy hanging out beside a busy road.
Must have escaped from the yard.
So I had to chance getting close to him with Sam.
The puppy came running up to Sam to sniff and then rolled all submissive.
Didn't let Sam to close was able to lead the dog back to his owners in the back yard\, with the loose gate, which the dog could squish through.
Shelia and the Cockatiel

Have a new addition to the family.
My niece and nephew are allergic to this bird.
So we took it in.
She is 6 years old and called Birdie Girl.
Sheila really had her nose out of joint over her.
For about a week she didn't come in the room where the bird is.
If it squaked, she barked or when we tired to talk to it.
She has come around and basically ignores it now.
I do let the bird have a fly around when the dogs are behind the babycate and the beaded curtain is across the door leading to where they are.
The bird will not fly through the beads: she know what her wing span will fit.
Shelia is now riding in the car in a crate.
After I had one more seat belt chewed up I finally had this an idea!
I have room for it as I drive a staton wagon.
Did another session of agility with her this year.
I wasn't very motivate so of course she was slacking.
Does teeter-totter and plank and A- frame great.
Still working on the stop at the bottom with two legs on target zone.
Jumps are awful: she realized she can just run under them instead of jumping over,
When they are set for her correct height!
I will have to practice with her a bit more with lower jumps so she ends that bad habit.
Had a friend come over with her son to visit.
I had Sheila in the crate: do not trust her around children.
Plus I have two other dogs I have to watch.
Katie the American stafforshire terrier of course was the best with the child!
Took the dogs for a walk along the river Saturday.
Was a rainy day did not meet any people.
We saw a heron, then a snapping turtle laying eggs on the gravel path.
She wants to be away from flooding I guess and gravel is good to lay the eggs in.
Then further up a large garter snake crossed the path so it was quite an enjoyable walk
The week before saw a hummingbird.
Usually very lucky to see one per year.
Been a while since I wrote.
There where some nice comments to read.
Thank you
moe
Shelia and the big brute

NO I'm not talking about Shelia's dog brother Sam!
That's the name of a cool toy hubby bought for her.
She's been playing with it for a couple of weeks.
I decided to take one of my little naps on the couch.
I was punished again, big brute is no more.
She and Sam worked together and ripped the stuffing out of it.
Her Kong toy with all the irregular edges had to be throw out to as she was breaking of the rubber protrusions.
She is a dog who loves her toys.
Late at night she will just be in the sun room playing away with a toy by her self.
Entertaining her self.
She chewed up another one of my hair clams, my fault as I left it on the couch, fair game.

She's been getting a nice dollop of peanut butter everyday because her sister Katie is on an antibiotic and gets a pill covered in peanut butter.
What you do for one must do for all.
Katie had a cyst removed from her butt.
When that was being done because she had to be put under for it, hubby got her tail cropped as well.
She has a crocked tail due to fused bones so never was able to lift it any ways.
She now has a little stub.
Shelia was right interested in sniffing the surgery site.
That's it for this week.
She seems very bored of agility: lazy bones.
Have to find something to wake he up there, loves the treats type='text'>Shelia and the water bottle

Shelia hasn't been up to to much mischief lately.
I wonder what's wrong with her!
2 days this week I came home from work to find her out off her crate.
When where going out the door she has this habit off sitting quietly in her crate.
Hoping for her rawhide treat.
Hubbie forgot to shut the door off the crate.
Really was no destruction!
This is a dog that likes to chew on lamp cords etc.(plugged in)
So that's why we still don't allow her freedom when where out to work.
Was one little piddle on the ceramic floor: how smart are they to pee there!
With 3 dogs who do you accuse!
I know it isn't my big boy Sam.
The one thing that was chewed upon was the water bottle, we use to threaten or squirt her when she is misbehaving.
We bought a new type of garbage can, as we were sick of the under the counter style.
(What an exciting life, eh! When this is news.)
Anyways Shelia has figured out how to lift the lid on it.
Sam did even better this week.
I place their food under the kitchen cupboard and when I came home the doors where open and it looked like he had eaten out off the bag.
He had a fat tummy as well!
The dog detective at work!
Remember when your dog does some thing wrong take a rolled up newspaper and swat yourself,
for not house proofing properly etc.
Signed Shelia up for another set off agility lessons.
Really like the type='text'>Shelia has two teeth pulled

Shelia had a pretty stressful week.
She loves to jump up and try and catch rocks we throw towards the river.
We always throw little pebbles.
Last Sunday brother-in-law came along for the walk and picked up a fist sized rock to throw.
She jumped for it and it caught her square in the front cannie tooth.
Chipped it and you could see the pulp.
Phoned the emergency vet, but they don't do extractions.
Advised to take her to our own vets Monday morning.
So off to the vets a 8:30 a.m. I went.
They looked at the tooth and told me I have to take her to the tooth vet!
Dr. Hale in Guelph.
Lucky was able to get her in that day at 12.
He ex-rayed the tooth and was not able to save it, chipped to high.
Also she had a front tooth that had been broken off since a puppy by rough play with Sam, I think.
He advised me to have that one pulled also.
So that was done in about an hour.
Was able to take her home that day.
Poor thing when she jumped out of the hatch back she fell flat on her face.
I didn't realize she was still under the effects of the anesthesia.
So this week she had to eat soffened food, no walks, no rough housing with the other dogs and she got a dose of metacam every morning for 4 days.
She went for a long walk by the river today and yesterday, seems back to her normal self.
Learned a lot about dental care from that vet: no more marrow bones for her!
She goes in next Friday to our regular vets for a teeth check up and her yearly.
The tooth vet said to have them listen to her heart as well as he said" juring the operation her heart wasn't beating right!"
What next Shelia!
Shelia almost drowned today

Took the two dogs for their usually weekend walk by the river.
Always keep Katie on leash as she is an American stafforshire terrier and people are afraid of her.
Plus she would not come back when we called.
If she saw people she would run up to them and try to love them!
Shelia on the other hand doesn't approach people, very obedient.
She started running out on the ice toward the centre off the river where there was an open creek.
We did not even think to call her back.
But when she broke through we realized she was in trouble.
She kept frantically dog paddling but could not pull her self out.
She was crying as well.
Hubby had the other dog and I took her leash.
He started waking out to the centre off the river.
About a quarter off the way out got down on his knees kept calling her encouraging her
it was like slush were he was laying.
She went under totally for a few seconds then somehow got up to her elbows(on the edge off the ice) and just rested there.
I was yelling to hubby let her go if she can't make it out you can't either.
He was calling back that we should try a stick to pull her out.
He started returning to shore.
She tried even hard to get out when he started walking away and she had broken through most off the soft ice was able to pull her self up on the harder stuff.
She return to land and we put her on leash.
She did a lot off rolling in the snow to dry off but none the worse for wear.
We where scared sick, was totally our fault!
Sure puts the priorities in order.
A lady and 3 teenage girls were walking along the bank and witnessed the whole scene.
When she approached she said," I said a prayer for your dog back there".
What a kind person.
So no more off leash for Shelia near the ice.
We don't want to loss our most precious possession.
There was a story in the paper a few years back.
A man had his Lab go through the ice on the port credit river.
He jumped in to save the dog and drowned.
Later the dog came running up stream along the bank looking for his master.
He had gone with the current and found away out.
With the Grand it was mostly frozen over,if she had been sucked under the ice ,
I don't even want to think about it.
Right know she is sleeping on her couch out in the sunroom .
Thank goodness I had not trimmed her claws much,
I think those long talons help her pull her self out.

Shelia and timbits

Today we did are normal walk with the dogs down by the Grand river.
On the way home we always stop and get ourselves a coffee and today 20 timbits.
I pulled in to the drive way.
A neighbor was walking by with his Stafforshire bull terrier.
I told me hubby quick let's get out and pet him
He is all white will a brown patch over his eye, only 10 months old and looks like a little barrel!
Very friendly.
So in that 2 minute time period,Shelia went to the front seat and woofed down the whole box off donuts.
Katie the American Stafforshire sat quietly in the car looking out the window at us.
Tonight she took my empty soy milk carton and went waking around with it.
An on going thing in the back yard: she is ripping the lattice off the fence.
We had wood lattic, replaced that with the more expensive plastic lattice.
She is still able to jump up and get a good bit on it.
Also she loves to pee very close to the door.
Usually on the patio stones, yesterday I noticed her peeing on the old jeep seat we leave out there.
Katie loves to lay on it in the summer.

<div marg container on the counter top.
A few minutes later I looked at the dog couch, there is shelia licking out the contents.
She had carried it there removed lid and was holding it with her paws as she ate.
A guy at work told me his dog (puppy) scratched a hole in the dry wall.
They love to surprise us.
When I come home and she jumps all over me.
Now I give her the big ball stuffie to hold in her month, that seems to work to calm her down.
She really enjoys the squeak sound it makes.
Then I take it chew them up.
Tonight thou, she went up stairs all alone.
Which is very weird behavior for her.
She usually stays around us or goes out to the the sun room for a nap.
I went up to check out the bed room and she had thrown up all over the bed!
I tried yesterday to clip a nail or two.
She got very stressed out by that.
Other things in the news.
A pit bull was found frozen inside a dog house.
The man and women who had starved there dog have gone to court: he got 12 months type='text'>Sheila and the Chlorophytum (spider plant)

It's a sunny cold Sunday.
We had a short walk today.
Dogs had awful cold feet.
Really should invest in some good booties for them.
Have a set from my old dog(rip) but don't seem to fit to well.
Today Sheila got up on the couch and was able to reach my hanging plant and eat it(a bit).
She has the need to be the boss off everything.
Sam and her got into a scrap today.
I don't know what about.
She does want to show him the respect I guess he feels he deserves!
While it was going on my Katie jumped off the couch from her long nap and was going to join in.
It's a good thing that Sheila is in the crate when we are out off the house.
She gave me a scratch this morning on the face trying to wake me up.
Usually its just kisses but if no results from that she likes to paw.
Her nails are long due to the nasty reaction she gives every time I try and cut them.
I'm only motivated to try every month or so.
Yesterday a cousin's daughter came over.
She was really good around the child.
Told my cousin and she said" yes, you have brought home a new toy for them"!<br up.
Plus very dangerous to her, although she has yet to cut herself.
I remember reading that a dog had swallowed a knife whole: I now believe it.
Had a great walk around the neighbor hood today with the dogs.
There is about 4 inches off soft, powderly snow out there.
Tonight she sat on the kitchen chair.
I have to remember to leave them pushed in or she'll be up walking on the table.
She also took the plastic fish wrapper of the counter top and she tried to run off with the oven mitten.

Shelia's tutu

I'm going to start naming my storied after what she chews up in the house.
Yesterday it was my dollar store wash puffs.
I had left them on the stairs and in a 10 minute unsupervised time period she had shredded one. Maybe she wants to take up ballet dancing.
Another annoying thing she does is bark, sometimes at the computer weird.
I got an all breed book at chapters today, talks about this breed.
One page: are a one person dog, very loyal.
She does good things occasionally.
We work long hours and she stays in her crate with no accidents .
She is nice to snuggle in bed.
But now the American Staffordshire: Kate has realized this and moved from her favorite position at the foot off the bed under the covers to up beside me.
I think she is doing this just to stop Sheila from having a good place.
Sheila is very good at cleaning the counter tops of crumbs in the kitchen.
I think she wishes she could be taller.
Funny story from today at work
Guy told me his sister and hubby have 2 Jack Russell terriers.
They have chewed up the legs of their piano, they have cherry wood floor which he says is very soft wood!
Their nails have scratched it all up.
I find that very amusing.
I told him dogs teach us possessions do not matter.

Shelia's Sunday

I'm on my second try with this story.
I think I lost it in the no mans land of the computer.
Tried to spell check and got burned.
So again, what did Sheila do to day?
She ripped apart a cool toy we bought her.
It looks like a rope toy, round with a plastic handle,
She chewed apart the handle, then started ripping up the glue.
I had to cut that off.
Now the thing looks like a messy mop head, she just loves it.
Rolls around on the floor with it, biting all it's loose strands.
Today we walked her with a muzzle.
She is very dog aggressive.
I think this breed is more off a guard dog, also has some Dingo in them, the ones that are in North American.
We let her run free on the walk down by the river ,as hardly any one around, just other dog walkers.
She is very obedient, when we call her she always comes back.
Very important to tire her out!
She behaves so much better at home.
Last weekend a friendly Lab came up to her to say hi, she had him down on the ground with her circling and nipping at him if he moved.
Usually we leash her when we meet another dog, but let her free that time and she showed her true colors.
On amazing animal facts today was about the wolves howl does not echo.
They need to communicate over large distances to the pack and during the hunt, have found the one frequency that does echo!
Sheila is the only one off my dogs that howls, must be the dingo in her.
Another thing she does is every time she lays down she groans ,sounds so funny.
The more like a wolf your dog looks the healthier it will be.

Sheila bit the rabbits tail off

When I first got Sheila, a couple off years back, she was placed in a large crate beside my rabbit Jessie.
Jessie is in a free run enclosure ,basically just walls of the room , and crate as the side off his home.
About 2 months ago I noticed what looked like a piece off stick coming out from Jessies tail.
He seemed to be biting it a lot and it bleed a bit.
Very hard material, I had no idea what it was.
Took him to the animal clinic and the vet felt the tail base, said it was disconnected from the tail bone.
She said this happened approximately, a year before.
I think it was Sheila who did it, hubby thinks it was one off the other dogs.
So the expensive solution to this was that Jessie had to go in for surgery and have his tail amputated.
Cost of about 600 dollars!
He survived and is now back in his enclosed with a wooden wall protecting him from the Sheila. What is weird though is when I take him out she wants nothing to do with him, almost seems afraid of him.
My other dogs get very excited when he comes out off his cage , ignore him other wise.
He even begs for carrots when he hears they get there's in the morning.
Today Sheila really didn't do any damage to anything.
Just her normal routine off scratching to wake me in the morning, loud barking to make me open the door to go out side and carrying some off my laudry around the house in her mouth.
If only I could train her to bring in down to the basement!

my dog mantra: Dogs teach you possessions don't matter.

Dog people are great.
I meet an old neighbor off mine and her husband grocery shopping the other day.
He is retired and does oil painting.
He told me he wanted to give me a picture off a dog he painted.
Wanted it to go to someone who would enjoy it.
Picked it up today, awesome picture of a black lab.
Not one off the breeds I own, or am owned by.
I like all pictures off dogs.
their old dog died, I'm hoping that in the future they get a replacement.
would be a lucky dog to live in that home, always some one home and lots off walks.

My first story about Sheila: Friday,Jan. 14,2005

Hi:
My name is Moe and 2 years ago I adopted an amazing cattle dog named Sheila(Dakota).
She was a surrender at the humane society, 6 months of age.
Everyday I say I know why!
She has been quite the challenge and I am an experienced dog owner, Not!
I thought other people with challenging dogs who'd be interested in hearing about her exploits.
Hopefully share some off their dog stories as well.
My hubby goes to work and tells his co-workers some of her highjinks and they all have a good laugh.
Two days ago I was doing my morning routine off giving them there food( have two other dogs, but that is for another day!)
I give Jessie the rabbit a date every morning, he stands up in his enclosed on a little step stool and begs for it.
I left the open full container on the counter top,a few minutes later I see Sheila on the couch with an empty date container, she won again!
What surprises does devil dog have for me tomorrow I wonder.

<div
